WHO WE ARE

Sisters.  Friends.  Women.  Artists.

We are all these things and we love to create.  We appreciate the inspirational spark, creative process, determination and dedication required to create beautiful and interesting pieces of art... in any medium.   We represent many dimensions within the world of art and enjoy our uniqueness and the uniqueness of our works.  Artists, practiced crafts persons, artisans... call us what you will... as long as we are able to continue creating...we will.

Comments from us...

I've been "creating" for many years now, in various mediums, but my favorite creations start off as yesterdays' news.  No, really!  Yesterdays "Newspaper"!   Papier mache!   We can all relate to it. Most of us had a chance to "play" with it at some point in our school days. But now a days my items are a little more advanced then the hot air balloon I made in Grade 6.

For more decades than I care to count, I have been dabbling with various creative tools and media and achieving delightfully mixed results. Only just in the last 10 years have I acquired a comfort level with 2 or 3 where I can go to pick up and play whenever time and mood happily collide!

My sister is way ahead of me in this world and has been working oh so diligently at encouraging me to post the random product of my eclectic journey here. She is my BIGGEST FAN. Sispride is mutual!

Someday I'll get to a stage in my life where I am able to dedicate myself full time to this eclectic journey and then ... maybe someday ... I'll be able to call myself an 'artist'. In the meantime, the delightfully mixed results (experiments, really) continue.

I've tried out a huge range of different art instructors over the decades, seeking the one who could help me discover a way to let go of all my inhibitions that built up over years from working with the wrong instructors. The list had grown so long... fear of drawing ... fear of too much color or not enough ... fear of the big canvas ... fear of experimenting ... the list grew.

I was so locked up in my own inhibitions, I couldn't budge ... me or the paint!  All that changed two years ago when I found an instructor named Claudia in a three-day workshop and the inhibitions began to melt away. She read us children's books at the start of each day, sang "Just keep painting, painting, painting" to us in her best "Dora" voice (from the animated movie, Finding Nemo) when ever one of us got stuck, she played loud classical music, and forced us to warm up each day with an hour of scribbling. We laughed together... we brown bagged our lunches so we wouldn't miss a moment of time with her. For all of this... I thank her.

I belong to a local art alliance and although I've not had the formal training that many of our members have had, I take as much pride in what I produce in my "3D world" as many of our "paint & pencil" members... and so do they.   They have encouraged me and inspired me to create freely.

Beadwork fascinates me.  Not just in making jewelry, but using them to embellish items.  I must confess I find it an almost additive art form... I never stop looking for new techniques, or thinking of new was to create with beads.  I'm currently looking into acquiring a small glass kiln to start making my own glass work and glass beads, in particular.  I suppose you could say it is one of my passions.
